My Landmarks and Me

Uluru | Ayers Rock | Australian Outback (March 2010)

I’ll be the first to admit that on my travels, I’ve visited some places to merely check them off a mental bucket list. But that doesn’t make the experiences any less amazing. Each one of these landmarks has a special memory for me that reaches far beyond saying, “Been there, done that.”

Bayon | Angkor Wat | Cambodia (June 2010)

Taj Mahal | India (April 2010)

Sydney Opera House from atop the Sydney Harbor Bridge | Australia (January 2010)

Great Barrier Reef | Australia (February 2010)

  1. Dig the pics! My problem is handing the camera to someone who knows how to take a good pic with me in it. How do you get yours?

  2. I’m so jealous right now. wish it could be traveling too…are you just carrying around a small point-and-shoot or a dslr?

  3. @travis – this is an excellent point. it is painfully difficult to get good photos of yourself while traveling solo. the two best tips i can give: 1) seek out the nearest asian (i’m not kidding) or 2) if there is a large tourist group around, you can bet among them is a tour guide – and tour guides know how to take photos. they’ve done ’em a million times! that’s how i got the angkor wat & taj mahal pics.

@dailoc – i’m traveling with a plain old point & shoot canon powershot sd1200 is. it’s small, simple and takes pretty decent pics (i don’t even have photoshop, so all my pics are au natural). AND i got it for free using my visa rewards points before i left the country. how’s THAT for backpacker frugality!

disclaimers: the great barrier reef photo was taken by a dive instructor with a professional underwater camera. and the sydney harbor photo was taken by the folks at the bridgeclimb company – they don’t allow personal cameras on the climb for fear of dropping them onto the bridge traffic below. or so they say – we all know they just wanna sell us *their* photos 😉

  4. Thy, these photos are breath-takingly beautiful. You look radiant and joy-filled. I’m so happy for you. Thank you for sharing your adventures with those who miss you and love you back in SoCal.
