Did you miss me? Yeah, I missed me too. I lost myself in a black hole. A deep, dark hole filled with five young New Yorkers…a hopeless romantic’s quest for love…cue’d laughter.
Yes. The reason for Traveling Thy’s absence: How I Met Your Mother. An American TV sitcom. Five entire seasons. Every single episode. In, like, a week.
Pathetic much?! Let me explain.
I’ve been helping a seafood export company on a couple projects in Vietnam. For some time now, my days have been spent poring over spreadsheets and analyzing business practices and learning more than I ever thought I wanted to know about fish farming and exports. And my evenings? They’ve been spent sitting in a motel room by myself, watching the rain fall outside.
I was slipping into a slight depression over the sudden routineness of my life. But it had to be done (traveling isn’t free, folks!). So when I came across the DVD box set in Saigon a few weeks ago, I thought – hmm, tempting. Better than watching the miserable rain fall in Nha Trang every day. And then when I saw it cost only $15 USD for all five seasons, it was a done deal.
Man, I love that show. Lily and Marshall. Legendary Barney. Haaaave ya met Ted? Robin Sparkles?
Anyone up for SLAPSGIVING?
Yes, awesomely pathetic. But fear not, Traveling Thy isn’t dead. That black hole had some bright shiny moments, some from which you can expect photos and stories very soon:
- Celebrated Vietnamese New Year (Tết) and danced with dragons
- Visited both my grandmothers in their respective countryside homes
- Beach bummed at a Mui Ne resort with my Uncle Tuoi, Aunt Fran & cousin Catherine who were visiting from Alaska
- Re-united with Josh P, an old high school friend & classmate, who is also backpacking around the world
- Discovered a delightful French restaurant in town and spent many evenings sipping red wine and eating stinky cheeses with Norwegian Joachim
- Booked a flight to Singapore to visit my good friend Chyka later this month
- Researched and planned my upcoming Europe travels (an ever-changing, ongoing task!)
See, it wasn’t allll pathetic. And now that the Tết new year holiday season is coming to an end…the Vietnamese people will soon resume their normal lives…and yes, I’ve finished all five seasons of HIMYM…I can now go back to conquering the world, one country at a time.
I’m back in the blogosphere, bitches!
I’ve never even heard of that show :/
Welcome back Thy. You’re awesome!
