Runyon Canyon Bench 2012

The Views From Runyon Canyon

It’s a beautiful day for a hike. Well, ok, everyday is a beautiful day for a hike in Los Angeles. But it’s Saturday, which means my regular hiking spot is packed with people.

Runyon Canyon is that spot and you won’t find me there today. It’s a nightmare on weekends. How do I avoid the crowds? I typically go on weekday mornings. Mondays and Tuesdays are especially nice because the streets surrounding the canyon are blocked off for street cleaning – and less parking spots means less people!

As I mentioned in Why I ❤ LA, hiking Runyon is one of my favorite things to do in LA. Sure, it’s weird that girls actually come here in full make-up, presumably to get discovered or pick up guys. And yeah, it’s kind of annoying that I always overhear douchey conversations that involve, like, oh my gawd, how awesome my last audition went. But I love Runyon because it’s close to where I live, it’s dog-friendly and the views are spectacular.

Here’s one of the views overlooking Hollywood.
In the distance is downtown LA.

This photo is from the stairs, facing southwest towards the ocean.

Facing directly south.

Here’s a view of the city from “The Bench” – in a rare moment when it’s actually UNoccupied!

Of course, there’s the Hollywood Sign (pictured here from two different vantage points).

Can’t forget the amazing Hollywood homes.

And my favorite: the dogs! Pictured first is my hiking buddy Jared and his dog Neiko.

Happy hiking and have a great weekend!
